For proper sitting posture, it is necessary to have a chair with a straight, non-concave seat, or a stool. Swivel chairs, so-called “piano” chairs, and armchairs are unsuitable for practicing.

You should sit closer to the front edge of the chair, which supports the main weight of the body. In this position, the upper body can move freely in any direction.
The height of the seat must be adjusted so that the forearms resting on the keyboard are either parallel to its level or slightly above it. It is especially important to pay attention to the height of the chair when playing the piano, since a piano keyboard is somewhat higher than that of a grand piano. When sitting on an ordinary chair, the player’s hands will be below the keyboard, which makes finger movement difficult. Therefore, it is necessary to use a firm support or lengthen the legs of the chair to compensate.
The feet should rest firmly on the floor near the pedals. It is unacceptable to cross them, move them aside, or tuck them under the chair — doing so disrupts the proper distribution of body weight and creates unnecessary tension.
